A vouezh uhel (A haute voix) follows the journey of Quentin, a young Breton-speaking musician and actor. Now in his thirties and educated in Diwan schools, he has an ambiguous relationship with Breton, which he has spoken since he was a child, although it is not his mother tongue. Today, he dubs and acts in Breton, but doesn’t consider himself a militant. Director Bleuenn Le Borgne followed him over several years. Through his experiences and encounters, Quentin, in search of his own identity, gradually clarifies the place Breton occupies in his life.
Biografia
Bleuenn Le Borgne is a journalist and film-maker. She grew up in a Breton-speaking family in North Finistère and attended Diwan. In 2017, for her first documentary, A-vihanig, she met three families who educate their children in Breton, even though it is not their mother tongue. In 2023, in A vouezh uhel, she continues to question the complex relationship between a young generation and its language, by following the journey of Quentin, an artist who also went through Diwan.
