The film portrays human experiences that intertwine in a realistic, ironic and, at times, surreal and dreamlike way. The two protagonists find themselves against each other, ready to engage in a duel, which is interrupted by their sudden transition into a parallel world. Having become kings, their constant quarrels lead them to seek God, questioning why neighboring monarchs are destined to incessant conflicts. Along this journey, amidst the absurdity, they meet characters who, in a grotesque and ironic way, narrate the tragedy of humanity. It is a journey of escape from reality towards the realm of dreams and hopes for a better life, which depicts the erosion of family and brotherly bonds and the desperation and discouragement resulting from the inability to face the adversities of life.
Biografia
Born in Sciacca (AG) in 1973, Paolo Santangelo early on developed a passion for cinema and video, working for local TV stations. Moving to Florence in 1997, he studied at the Imagina film school, where he now teaches editing and filming. He has directed award-winning short films and four zero-budget feature films with non-professional actors, including Ritorno al mare (selected at Valdarno Cinema Fedic and Kimera Film Fest) and Il Gigante Pidocchio (selected at the Torino Film Festival, DOC. – Special Mention).
